Important Info
Construction Alert
The park immediately next to the Washington Harbour at Georgetown is completely fenced off due to construction. This impacts the entire park from the Harbour loading dock area to Wisconsin Avenue. Since this is the area of the park directly next to our start/finish line, it has previously been used as a meeting place for participating teams.
Runners can still line up as usual; however, there is little room for pre-race assembly at the start line. Runners may use the park between Wisconsin and the Key Bridge; however, this is National Park Property and no banners/signage, etc. will be allowed in this park.
Runners should not congregate on K Street to the west of Wisconsin Avenue as the road is NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC!
Some additional noteworthy items:
1. Teams should plan to arrive early this year to obtain parking and maneuver around planned congestion.
2. Teams should plan to meet at a different location; i.e. around the fountains at the Harbour. That said, please be mindful that several thousand people will be trying to maneuver around this space - registering, lining at bag check and meeting their respective teams.
3. The portable restrooms will be in two places: between the loading dock and construction area at the Harbour as well as lined up along K Street at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue. We realize this is not ideal; however, it was the only space available that offered our participants any convenience whatsoever.
Once you complete the race, please pay attention to volunteers who will direct you out of the finish area towards the post race party, water, food, metro and parking garages.
Water Stations
On the 10K route, the water tables WILL BE IN THE CENTER OF THE ROADWAY ON CANAL ROAD just after the 2 mile mark. Runners will approach the same water tables on the way back which will be just after the 4 mile mark. Water will be available at The Washington Harbour at Georgetown prior to the race (on the lower fountain area) and will be provided at the finish line. Please note that it could be very hot that morning. We encourage runners to carry their own water bottles or camelbacks in addition to the water provided at the race. Water will be provided on the Fun Walk Route near the entrance to Thompson Boat House.
Bibs
Please wear your bib number on the front of your clothing so that we can see and record your number as you cross the finish line. Check the information on the printed label to make sure it is correct. If not, notify a race official prior to the start of the race. If you are registering on the day of the race, be sure to fill out the tear stub on the bottom of the bib completely using waterproof ink.
Transferring Your Number
If you sign up for the 10K and are unable to run, you will be able to transfer your number to another individual through June 3 for a $5 transfer fee (which can be mailed if check or cash or faxed if credit card). All transfer forms must be post-marked by June 3, 2011. Any transfer forms received May 27 – June 3 will be treated as individual registrations, as the team registration cut-off date is May 26. Transfers received after June 3 will be denied. Contact Hilary Sama at Hilary.Sama@heart.org if you need further assistance.
Transfers received after June 3 will be denied. Please do not give your number to another runner or run with another runner's number or timing chip. It may cause confusion in case of an emergency and it will cause inaccurate results.
