Important Info
Water Stations
On the 10K route, the water tables WILL BE IN THE CENTER OF THE ROADWAY ON CANAL ROAD just after the 2 mile mark. Runners will approach the same water tables on the way back which will be just after the 4 mile mark. Water will be available at The Washington Harbour at Georgetown prior to the race (on the lower fountain area) and will be provided at the finish line. Please note that it could be very hot that morning. We encourage runners to carry their own water bottles or camelbacks in addition to the water provided at the race. Water will be provided on the Fun Walk Route near the entrance to Thompson Boat House.
Bibs
Please wear your bib number on the front of your clothing so that we can see and record your number as you cross the finish line. Check the information on the printed label to make sure it is correct. If not, notify a race official prior to the start of the race. If you are registering on the day of the race, be sure to fill out the tear stub on the bottom of the bib completely using waterproof ink.
Transferring Your Number
If you sign up for the 10K and are unable to run, you will be able to transfer your number to another individual beginning on May 1st through June 4th for a $5 transfer fee (mail-in only). The substitute runner MUST sign the waiver and fill out the transfer form. Contact Patty Burke at Patty.Burke@heart.org if you need further assistance.
Transfers received after June 4th will be denied. Please do not give your number to another runner or run with another runner's number or ChampionChip. It may cause confusion in case of an emergency and it will cause inaccurate results.
ChampionChip
The race will be timed using the ChampionChip, which is in your packet. There are full instructions on the envelope on how to tie the ChampionChip to your shoelaces. It is important to read the instructions carefully and tie the Chip to your shoelaces because the magnetic field may not be strong enough to read the Chip if it is in your pocket or fanny pack. Race results will reflect your "gun" time as well as your individual "Chip" time, which does not begin until you actually cross the starting line. Overall results will be based on gun time and the age and category awards will be based on Chip time.
TURN-IN At the end of the race, you MUST turn in your ChampionChip. Failure to do so could result in you being prevented from registering in other events using the ChampionChip timing system, as well as a $35.00 charge. An adequate cool down area will be cordoned off behind the finish line and all runners will be asked to return the Chips before exiting the area. Volunteers will be available to assist you. Water will be available as you exit the finish area.
